The California Department of Transportation’s (Caltrans) I-10 Desert Rehab project includes pavement rehabilitation, the addition of an eastbound truck climbing lane, and safety improvements to Interstate 10 (I-10). The project area spans approximately 13 miles of freeway near Coachella in Riverside County, between 1.8 miles east of the Dillon Road Interchange and 2 miles east of the Cactus City Rest Area. Due to heavy traffic volumes on this major east-west connector route, the existing roadway pavement periodically needs repair to restore its structural integrity and ride quality to transport goods and people through Southern California. By making the roadway safer and more reliable for drivers, and installing solar powered EV charging stations, Caltrans is supporting their mission to provide a safe and reliable transportation network that serves all people and respects the environment. Construction is anticipated to begin in late 2022 and the project will take approximately 3.5 years to complete.
